Free States and Slave States

Today in class we talked about the balance between free and slave states in the Union in the 1800's.  We discussed why this had to happen and how it only postponed the Civil War, but didn't prevent it.  You can see what we discussed below:

The Industrial Revolution

Today in class students had to find out a little bit more about one of the inventions from the Industrial Revolution.  Students had to identify the inventor, locate some information on the invention, and then make connections as to how it impacted society, the economy, etc.  Students were asked to cite their source in MLA format as we begin to prepare for writing a research paper later this year.  All work for this activity can be found in Google Classroom.

Manifest Destiny

Today in class we began to read about Manifest Destiny and how we expanded the United States.  Specifically, we read about how Oregon, Texas, and California were added, acquired, annexed and admitted.  Students had a reading assignment to complete for tomorrow as well as a video to watch.  There were questions that went along with the video that are to be completed by Tuesday night.  The video is below:

Today in class we discussed the idea of Manifest Destiny and how we spread out from the Atlantic to the Pacific.  We also took a brief reading quiz on our assignment from yesterday.  You can see what we discussed below:

Today in class we took a very brief look at the War of 1812.  Since not much changes as a result of the war it is not very well known.  We watched a short video that jokes about how no one knows about the War of 1812.  You can see it below:
