Civil War Primary Sources

Today in class we are looking at real Civil War photographs.  We filled out a form in class to help us come up with how to describe the Civil War in 1 Word.  The pictures go in the same order below as they do on the sheet provided in class.

The Emancipation Proclamation

Yesterday and today we have been taking a look at the Emancipation Proclamation.  We took a look at the document itself and answered a few questions.  Today, we are working on a map assignment dealing with how the Proclamation actually affected slavery.

The Leadup to the Civil War

Students read about the events leading up to the Civil War and we have been discussing it in class.  You can see what we discussed below:

Students should be continuing to work on their outlines which are due on Monday night.  Additionally, this writing assignment is too.  Students will be comparing the thoughts of John Brown and Abraham Lincoln on the prospects of Civil War.

We are going to push to finish the Civil War before the break.  That will mean WWI will be up next when we come back.  I'm hoping to conduct a group project regarding trench warfare in January.  It's usually been a fun one!

Students either read this assignment or alternatively this reading assignment and took notes.  We will finish up with this assignment later this week.

We are working on video questions to two videos this week in class.  I'll be looking for better videos than what I have below, but until I get better quality links we are going to use the ones below:
