INSPECTING the 20's and 30's

Today in class we took a look at the 1920's and tried to figure out just exactly what types of things were going on.  We used our INSPECT themes to classify the types of things happening so that later this week we can compare it to the 1930's!

The 1920's

Today in class we watched a video about the 1920's.  We are going to take a quick look at the 20's and the Depression this week before we explore World War II next week!

Zoo Project

Today in class we talked about the zoo assignment based off of our trip to Miller Park Zoo yesterday.  All information about the assignment has been posted in Google Classroom.  Students will be looking into how different levels of law affect the zoo and its visitors.

Levels of Government

Today we reviewed federalism and added the idea of local government working alongside the federal and state governments.  As part of their zoo assignments, students will be exploring the zoo to find out how different laws, statutes, ordinances, and codes affect the zoo and those who visit it.  Students will be collaborating to find this information while they explore the zoo tomorrow!

Today in class we worked on a map showing how the European nations, Japan, and the USA had begun to develop empires in the early 1900's.  The maps below will help to complete the map, which is due Thursday.

Fast Forward Again

Today in class we continued to fast forward into the 1900's to learn about what life was like in the big cities of America.  We took a look at how things were changing and how industry was reshaping American culture.  You can see the video below:

Today in class we began to fast forward through the remainder of the 1800's.  We watched an episode of "America:  The Story of Us" entitled "Heartland."  You can see the video below.  We also answered some questions as we watched.

The Civil War Ends

Today in class we discussed the Civil War ending and the process of Reconstruction beginning.  You can see what we discussed below.  We will be taking a test over the Civil War in one week on Monday, March 12!

Life During the War

Today in class we explored a few more topics for our upcoming research papers by talking about some of the issues taking place away from the battlefield during the Civil War.  You can see what we discussed below:

The Emancipation Proclamation

Today in class we watched a clip from the movie "Lincoln" that discussed the Emancipation Proclamation.  After that we began reading the Emancipation Proclamation in groups and answering some questions about what we read.  We broke the Emancipation Proclamation down and dug into it at our individual reading levels to make sure we could get the most out of it!

Early Battles of the Civil War

Today in class we took a brief reading quiz and began discussing the beginning of the Civil War.  We stopped a the Battle of Antietam, which was the bloodiest day of the war.  This was what gave President Lincoln the opportunity to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, which we will talk about tomorrow.  You can see what we discussed today below:
